First, we determine the cause of the pest infestation; second we recommend changes necessary to reduce re-infestation; and third we recommend proper pest control procedures to correct the current infestation pest problem. Customer cooperation is the most important aspect of IPM. The practice of good sanitation is very important; however, many situations in homes and structures require improved ventilation and proper drainage in order not to attract carpenter ants, subterranean termites and powder post beetles (wood destroying insect pests). Our approach to these ants, also known as wood ants, is to identify the area of colonization and attack the nest. Treatment is recommended to the entire structure, as well as implementing IPM. Many times, with many carpenter ants in and around the home, additional follow-up treatments are necessary monthly, bi-monthly, and quarterly. Intervention into the colonization is important to completely eliminate the colony.
Many species of powder post beetles exist. Due to this, only a supervisory licensed person should inspect, and determine treatment needs. For instance, they could be bark beetles, which are self-eliminating without any need for chemicals.
Homes and properties differ, however, and individual needs dictate a specific proper control measures -- which may only be decided by a supervisory licensed person. Safety and strict adherence to chemical applications are paramount concerns at all times.
